The causes of sunburn are UVA and UVB rays.

As we all know, sunburn is caused by ultraviolet rays. UVA, which reaches deep into the skin, and UVB, which reaches the surface of the skin, cause sunburn when they hit the skin.

UVA and UVB cause different types of sunburn: UVA causes "sunburn," a darkening of the skin, while UVB causes "sunburn," a red, burning sunburn.

In this article, I will introduce the "aftercare" that you can do at home for "sunburn" that you need to take care of as soon as possible after sunburn. *If blisters appear or the pain is severe, please see a dermatologist as soon as possible!

Aftercare for sunburn

Cool down gently.

Sunburn, which is a red, burning skin condition, is an inflammation of the skin. The first thing to do is to cool down gently. Wrap a bag of ice or coolant in a soft cloth and apply it to the painful area.

A well-wetted towel is useful for cooling down a large area. Squeeze the towel lightly to keep the moisture in it, and it will cool the area efficiently. You can also keep the wet towels in the refrigerator and use them alternately.

Using water or a warm temperature that does not cause pain is a good way to cool the surface of the skin. Gently cool down the sunburned area first by taking a shower with low water pressure.

Avoid irritating things as much as possible.

When your skin is burning, regular baths and bath salts can be irritating. Until the skin burns and pain subsides, try to switch to a bath that is as non-irritating as possible, such as taking a shower at a lower temperature.

If your skin is irritated, friction while changing or putting on your clothes will also sting. If you feel pain, choose clothes made of gentle materials or sleeveless clothes that do not touch your skin.

It is also recommended to take a break from makeup until the sunburn subsides or switch to cosmetics with skin-friendly ingredients. Be careful about accessories such as necklaces that come in direct contact with the skin, and take care of them immediately after sunburn to avoid irritation as much as possible.

Keep your daily care gentle on your skin.

Wash your face gently.

Hot water can irritate the skin, so use lukewarm water or water to gently wash your skin for a while.

Harsh cleansers and cleansers can also dry out the skin. Use gentle products for your skin or wash your face with water only until it is conditioned.

Use skincare products for sensitive skin.

Switching to skin whitening products immediately after sun exposure can be hard on the skin due to various ingredients. If you feel pain even with simple items, take a break from skincare for a while.

Keep your skin hydrated with moisturizer

After sun exposure, skin tends to become dry and flaky. When the skin tone subsides, moisturize well with a gentle lotion.

After moisturizing, cover the skin with a cream or balm to lock in the moisture. Vaseline is recommended as it is less likely to cause irritation.

For a while after sunburn, try to take care of your skin with gentle daily care.
